Have you lost the artist who you were born to be? Would you like to reconnect with her/him? Spend some time with kids, they will be your greatest teachers.
Today I volunteered with Nanette Weinhold's 5th Grade class, at the Carbondale Community School, as part of the Roaring Fork Studio Tour visiting artist series. What fun! I love working with kids, their energy is wonderful, their willingness to be playful; inspiring and their capacity to experiment and take risks; emboldening. Watching children create and explore can support the "lost creative," that lives inside each "adult," supporting us to tap into our innate capacity as creative beings.
Our project was to create a Summer Journal for each student to take home and return in September. Nanette and I collaborated on how to make this work. Nanette came up with the titles for each of the pages. Page 1-Cover, Page Two-Summer Poem (which we created today and read aloud), Page 3-June, Page 4-July, Page 5-August, Page 6-Your Dream for 6th Grade.
Here are the photos of the students in action. We are hoping they will log on tomorrow and share their poems with you.
To Nanette and all of the students, I'll be back in September to see how you've filled your pages.
To those we missed, Nanette has promised to send me photos as you continue working and I will post them here as soon as they arrive.
I think some of those pieces the kids made are amazing! How wonderful!
I was just sent to your site by a friend. I love this. I’m in need of your book right now… I could use some creative juices to flow through me.
